Do any of you know the month of Ramadan?

It's a religious observation between Muslims who fast before dawn until sunset (which can be very accurate based on the marvels of modern science) for 30 days. The first day of Ramadan is marked by a full-moon sighting in the sky on the 9th month on the Islamic calendar (which I have yet to still learn much about). During the days of fasting, a muslim brother or sister wakes up before the daily Fajr prayers to eat to their hearts content while making the intention to fast for that day. Then after the ascribed time, the person stops eating and prays Salat-ul-Fajr, the first prayer where the fasting starts. At around Sunset, usually about 12+ hours later, the person opens their fast usually with a date (a nice, sweet fruit) with a very important dua' before eating it. After opening the fast and enjoying the meal with the family (it's nice to be with family) we pray Salat-ul-Magrib, the 4th prayer. (We must finish ALL PRAYERS for the fast to be accepted, and the fast is void with things as simple as bad language or any sort of violence or anger) After that prayer, Muslims finish the 5th prayer Salat-ul-Isha and attend the Tarawih prayers for every single day of fasting in Ramadan. In Tarawih, Muslims from all over come to prayer and finish at least 1 part of the Q'uran for each specific day of fast. There are 30 Parts in the Q'uran for 30 days of Ramadan; Isn't that awesome? Anyways, this continues with great challenge but not so much difficulty is you put your heart into it. It is then rewarded with a wonderful celebration called Eid, which is essentially supposed to be a Muslim holiday where we attend Eid prayers and enjoy beautiful talks and socialization, presents, etc. It's a great time of the year! Remember, fasting puts you in the shoes of those who go hungry everyday and humbles you to always be grateful to what you have and share what has been given to you.

I'm participating in Ramadan this month and I hope I can rid myself of the bad habits that plague me (I'm far from perfect)and hope some of my wishes for everyone come true. Who knows what this effort will lead to. I'm excited and ready to complete all 30 days and strengthen my spirituality and soul to be a better person. ^^
